Japan In NYC - Nami Yamamoto

Nami Yamamoto is a contemporary dancer who is the mother of my son's friend. Her daughter and my son attend the same school. There are only a few Japanese students at the school, so my son and I felt close to them. When I first met her, she was busy with a performance at Lincoln Center for a show called The Oldest Boy. The show was on for 2 months and a half, and she was performing there almost everyday. The show ended at the end of last year. Now, Nami is working on her own piece called Headless Wolf. She has been developing this piece since 2010, right after she gave birth to her daughter. Since 2010, Nami has been developing and rehearsing the piece three days a week. Headless Wolf is deeply influenced by the experience of becoming a mother, and at the same time, losing her father. She is sincerely facing the unbeatable power and fate of finding beauty in two ends of life, birth and death. Finally, Headless Wolf goes outside from the rehearsal space next Tuesday, March 24th at CPR in Brooklyn, and June 1st at Judson Memorial Church.

彼女の名前は、山本奈美さん。コンテンポラリーダンサーです。彼女に出会ったきっかけは、息子の学校。彼女の娘さんと、私の息子は同じ学校に行っていて、そして、その学校には日本人がほとんどいないので、息子も私もなんだか親近感が湧き、仲良くさせてもらってます。私が彼女に最初に会った時は、彼女は、リンカーンセンターで開催されている、The Oldest Boy に２ヶ月半ほぼ毎日出演されていて、ものすごく忙しそうだった。それが、去年末で終わり、今彼女が取り組んでいるのが、娘さんが生まれた直後の２０１０年からほぼ週３回リハーサルし続けている、Headless Wolfという作品。母になり、親を亡くし、いろんないろんな彼女自身の心境の変化、成長、喜び、悲しみ、そして、生と死を目の当たりにした経験の中からまさしく生み出された作品です。彼女が５年間リハーサルを続けているHeadless wolfを外に発する時がやってきました。来週の火曜日３月２４日にブルックリンのダンススタジオCPRにて、そして、６月１日には、 Judson Memorial Church にて、彼女の作品を見る事が出来ます。
