A live Interactive Adventure For Kids in NYC - Pip's island

The cold winter season has come to New York city. During the winter time, I always look for things to do with my son. Recently, I found a great activity for my 5 years old son. It is a new live theater production for kids called Pip's Island. They just opened in NYC on November 9th in the Chelsea district. Below is a description from their website about this theater production.
" Just a magical tree portal away from our world, there awaits a fantastical Island that any child with an explorer’s spirit can discover for themselves. On arrival, they will need to use all their natural creativity and exuberance to help the Island’s magical inhabitants and save them from the looming threat to their serene existence. In doing so, they might just become honorary members of the Exceptional Explorers Society and gain the skills worthy of the title ‘Master Explorer’!"
We visited Pip's island during the Thanksgiving holiday. I don't want to give you too much information and spoil the surprise before you go, but I have to say that I have never seen nor experienced anything like this before. This is a theater production but there are no seats or set stage. They have five different very unique, beautiful, and magical rooms that are part of the story. The story takes you through each room where the children participate in the story. My 5 year old son was very involved with the actresses and actors in the story, he was absolutely part of it. He really enjoyed Pip's Island and was asking us when we returned home when we are going again:) The theater show is about an hour long. I think 5 - 10 years old is the perfect age group for this live Interactive adventure, Pip's Island.
ニューヨークの冬は長くて極寒。冬の週末は、５歳のやんちゃ坊主をどこに連れて行こうか頭を悩ませます。ニューヨークはそんな両親の為に冬場はいろんな屋内アクティビティが豊富なんですよね。先日私たちが訪れたPip's Islandも冬場だけの期間限定子供シアターイベント。シアターっていっても、観劇するのではなく、ステージもないし、ずっと座っているわけでもない。全く新しいタイプの参加型シアターなんです。Pip's Islandは勇敢な子供達だけが発見することができる幻想的な島。そこに行き、島での数々の問題を解決し島の平和を守り、そして、プロの探検家になるのを体験できちゃうのです。
私達も先日チェルシーにあるPip's Islandにお邪魔し島を探検してきました。到着すると子供達は探検家のベストを着用して、地下の部屋に案内され、シアターの開始です。シアター内には、５つの部屋があり、それぞれ順番に訪ねて行くのですが、この各部屋がとても個性的で可愛い！海の中とか、氷の部屋などいろいろなタイプの部屋があり、そこにこのシアターの俳優さん達と一緒に訪ねて、悪者と戦ったり、人を助けたり、探検に必要な道具を作ったりと自分が演劇の中に入り込んで役を演じている感じです。本当にこれは、今まで全くなかったタイプのシアター。全くシャイでない息子は役者さん達と絡みまくり、人一倍この体験型シアターをエンジョイしていました。終わってすぐに、次はいつ行くのか聞いてきたくらい：）毎日いつ行くのか聞かれています。このシアターは、両親も付き添いで入らないといけないのですが、私もとてもエンジョイしました。ちょっとシアターが暗くなることもあるので、両親が離れていても不安がらない４歳くらいのお子様くらいからがおすすめ。もうすぐ６歳の息子はめちゃめちゃ楽しみましたよ。イマジネーションの世界にすっと入っていける４歳から１０歳くらいまでのお子様におすすめです。チェックしてみてね。
