I'm a hair stylist, so I have many opportunities to talk to different people who sit in my chair. I'm glad that many people like Japanese culture here in NYC. In conversations with clients, when I mention KINOKUNIYA Book store, it's surprising to me that so many people don't know about this store. If you like Japanese culture, you should know this store KINOKUNIYA. It is located just in front of Bryant Park on 6th Avenue. Today, I'd like to take you through KINOKUNIYA book store.
私は、美容師やから、いろんな人と会話する機会があり、私が日本人だと分かると、日本の文化が好きって言う方々が多く、嬉しいんです。その会話の中で私が、”紀伊国屋ブックストアー知ってる？”って聞くと、以外と知らない人達が多くてびっくり。紀伊国屋ブックストアとは、日本にある紀伊国屋書店のニューヨーク店の事やねんけど、私が以前に住んでいたサンフランシスコにもあるし、海外に住んでいる日本人のオアシス的存在です。今日は、そんな紀伊国屋書店の紹介です。
On the first floor, they have art, photo, fashion, recipe books, novels, kid's books, and some gifts..Most of the books on the first floor are in English.
一階は、アート、写真集、ファッション、食べ物、小説、子供の絵本、などがあり、ちょっとした小物もあります。一階では、英語の本がほとんどです。
The second floor is anime / manga and a cafe ( Zaiya ). When I come to this floor with my 3 year old son, I have a hard time getting him out of this area. He is so into super heroes, Japanese anime and Japanese bakery. All the things he likes are on this second floor. It must be an amazing place for my son!
２階は、アニメ、漫画、そして、カフェ（Zaiya)があるよ。息子と、紀伊国屋の２階にくると、連れて帰るんがそりゃーもう大変！彼は、スーパーヒーロー、日本の漫画、日本のパンが好きやから、好きな物が全部コンパクトに詰まったこの２階は彼にとったらすごい所なんやろーな。
The under ground floor is my favorite floor. I love the Japanese fashion magazine section. I can stay here all day reading Japanese magazines. This floor is an oasis for Japanese people who like magazines, novels, little Japanese goodies, beautiful Japanese paper, and much more. I feel like I'm in Japan in here. If you are looking for unique gifts, you should go to KINOKUNIYA. They have so many things that are good for gifts. Many things are directly from Japan so your gift will be special and stand out.
地下一階が、私が一番好きなフロアー。特に日本のファッション雑誌のセクションが！このお店に一日中いて、ずーっと本を読んでいたいな。ほんま、ここは、在ニューヨーク日本人にとってはオアシス的存在。ここに来ると、日本に帰ったような気分になる。そして、紀伊国屋の良い所は、ニューヨークで、ちょっとした贈り物を日本人じゃない方にする時は、紀伊国屋に来て買い物する事が多いです。日本から直接きた品物がほとんどだから、日本人じゃない方々には珍しい物だし、もうすでに持っているかも。。という心配もあまりしなくていいしね。
