Kyoto Modern Terrace

I visited Japan this summer and visited many interesting places in Kyoto. My favorite restaurant from this trip is the Kyoto Modern Terrace. I took the description of Kyoto Modern Terrace from their website.

"Kyoto Kaikan was a theater complex built in 1960 during the height of the Japanese modernism architectural movement. It was completely renovated in 2016, yet kept it’s 60’s retro feel. Located at the foot of the Heian Jingu Shrine, our Kyoto Modern Terrace cafe restaurant within this new complex has wide open terrace seating overlooking the natural beauty of Kyoto. The food menu features wood-grilled meats & fresh, seasonal Kyoto veggies. "

I know Kyoto Kaikan ( it was the name of the space before it became the Kyoto Modern Terrace) from when I was living in Japan about 18 years ago. When I stepped into the space, I was amazed by the well renovated building. They have a beautiful out side terrace but when we visited it was very hot and humid summer day. We didn't choose to sit out side. I wish I could have been seated in the beautiful outside space and have breakfast, maybe next time when it is not as hot.  We had a Japanese style breakfast and it was a reasonable ¥1000! ($10 US) They are usually super busy for lunch and dinner. But breakfast time was very mellow and nice. Many books to read in the restaurant. I will recommended to go there early in the morning (they open 8am)  to have breakfast and read a book. If the weather is nice, get a seat outside! You can find out more about them here.

今回の４週間日本滞在で、京都散策をかなり楽しみました。今日は、その中で一番のお気に入りレストランを紹介したいと思います。まずは、京都モダンテラスのウェブサイトから抜粋した彼らのお店の特徴をお読みになってください。

日本を代表するモダニズム建築ならではの佇まいを残す「ロームシアター京都」の二条通りに面する2F、陽の光が心地よい店内とテラス席で京都の四季と文化を感じながらお食事やお酒をお楽しみいただけるカフェ＆レストラン。芳しいスモークの香りが食欲を誘う”薪焼き”による野菜・肉・海鮮のグリル料理をはじめ、ピザやパスタ、和・洋織り交ぜたデザートやお飲み物まで、作り手のこだわりと京都の旬をご堪能いただけるメニューの数々をご用意しています。 

私は、このロームシアターができる前の京都会館を知ってるだけに、レストランに入ってあまりの改築の素晴らしさに圧倒されてしまいました。ここでのオススメは外のテラス席なのですが、午前中でしたが、あまりのむす暑さにテラス席は断念して、店内にて朝ごはんをいただきました。この朝ごはんは、なんとこの心地よい素敵なスペースなのに驚きの１０００円！シンプルで美味しかったし、レストラン内にある本を席で読んでゆっくりできるし最高でした。この京都テラスは大人気店で、ランチやディナー時には整理券を配っているほど。ですが、朝ごはん時は空いています。ここは、是非、朝早く行ってゆっくり朝ごはんを食べて本を読んだりして過ごす事をお勧めします。朝８時から空いていますよ。お店の詳しい内容はココからご覧いただけます。
