Japan Week At Grand Central Station

Founded in 2012, Japan week is a promotional tourism event organized by Japan National Tourism Organization at Grand Central Station. This year's event was on Feb 18th - Feb 20th 2015.

２０１２年から始まったジャパンウィークは、日本政府観光局主催で毎年この時期にグランドセントラルステーションにて開催されています。今年、２０１５年は２月１８日から２月２０日まで開催されていました。

This year's theme is "DEPACHIKA." Depachika are food markets in the basement of Japanese department stores filled with sweets, snacks, and street foods.

今年の注目はデパ地下の紹介。

The most popular food from this years Japan week is Takoyaki. Takoyaki is like octopus dumpling. It is originally form Osaka. I was born in Osaka. This is my soul food!

今年のジャパンウィークの一番人気な食べ物はたこ焼き！大阪生まれの私には嬉しい事やわ。

They have a bar in the event space. You can try many different kinds of Sake and Beer from Japan.

会場内にはバーもあって、日本から輸入されてきた、様々なお酒やビールを飲む事も出来ます。

Fashion is also a popular part of Japanese culture. In this event, you see beautiful traditional Kimono and crazy boots at same time! I tried this heel-less shoes made by Noritake Tatehara. Lady Gaga ordered a customized pair.

ファッションは人気がある日本文化の中のひとつです。会場内では伝統的な着物とクレイジーなデザインの靴の展示がされていて、その靴を履いてみる体験ができたので、履いてみた！この靴はNoritake Tateharaさんの作品で、なんとLady gagaが特別注文したらしいです。

This character is DOMO. He is the mascot/symbol for Japan Broadcasting Corporation. I've lived here in the USA for a while, so I didn't know about him. He is popular with young kids in Japan. 

NHKのキャラクターのどーも君と記念撮影。でも私、どーも君ってこの時まで、見た事も聞いた事もなかったんよね。子供達に人気があるキャラクターみたいね。

During the three day event, there were many event happenings scheduled on stage.

At the stage area, you can see a Tea ceremony, Fashion show, Music and Dance. I saw this Kaga Shihi Lion dance, and Geisha dance by the Takefuji Dance Company from japan. I had good time at Japan week！

ステージでは茶の湯、ファッションショー、音楽やダンスなどのショーが行われていて、私達はこの日、日本から来られた、たかふじ右近左近による加獅子舞を鑑賞しました。ジャパンウィーク楽しかった！
